Do you have a Picky Eater?
posted by: Kia
A warm welcome to our newest guest blogger Joy Oday Hawk, the owner of Not Just Kale as site that helps parents feed their children in healthy and delicious ways! Enjoy!!! I can’t tell you how many people ask me what to do with kids that are picky eaters, or how to introduce solids to ensure a child won’t be picky later. It is a complex question that doesn’t have a simple answer. I can pretty much assure you that your child WILL be picky at some point, but that doesn’t mean you have

We have another fabulous guest blog post to share!! Enjoy Getting kids to help in the kitchen is often like getting them to go to the dentist. The idea that cooking is a boring chore-slash-punishment can be expunged, however, if you let the kids get their hands dirty. Give Kids Incentive If you have more than one kid, try delegating them with different tasks each time so one isn’t always stuck with one task they don’t enjoy. Moreover, if two or more kids are assigned one too-simi

When we think about eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables it’s fairly easy to get in your green, red, orange and yellow…but the blue/purple color group can be trickier to work into your diet every day! I am always on the lookout for purple produce. Purple happens to be my daughter’s favorite color so when we go grocery shopping she is always the first to spot anything purple! We were both excited when we came across some purple kale!! We’ve been enjoying our green kal

With Christmas only 5 days away we thought we’d create something fun and festive! Our friend Ms Marina told us that we could make a Christmas tree our of broccoli so we just had to try it out!! To make these trees you need a styrofoam cone shape…we used one the was 98mm (3-7/8 in) x 301mm (11-7/8in) we trimmed the bottom…I would suggest cutting the cone half way down so that it doesn’t take up too much broccoli! We used 6 large heads of broccoli for our tree. I w

We seem to be on a Ukranian kick these days…we made borscht last week and this week it was perogies. Mmmm perogies…not something I’d have on a frequent basis because wow are they heavy! Here’s the thing with me and perogies…I don’t eat potatoes so ours are always potato free! My Aunty Jennie (the real deal Ukranian aunty!) would always make special batches for me without potatoes – just cheese. So now when I make perogies that’s exactly w

But this weekend was all about the borscht! This takes a lot of veggies which means lots of washing, peeling and cutting…the perfect job for Hannah! Lot of colour veggies!!! This week I have a treat for you….my friend Kendra has created a Rainbow Stew!!!! She has had a rainbow chart in her home since we first started selling them so she is used to shopping for, cooking and serving rainbows to her kids! She didn’t even start out with the intention of making a Rainbow stew but that is what she naturally ended up with, without even trying, this is one of the reasons I have placed her on a fruit and vegetable pedestal Read the full post

Every Saturday my husband and daughter head to a great store called Urban Harvest to buy our organic produce for the week! They have these gorgeous rainbow carrots right now…purple, orange, yellow and red! They taste even better than they look!!! Hannah and I made rainbow roasted carrots last night… Look at that purple!!!! Sunny yellow carrots! I pretty much just watched Hannah prepare this…she took charge and had a blast…I was so proud to be HER assistant t
