How can I get my child to eat more vegetables and fruit?

posted by: Kia

The beauty of our Today I Ate A Rainbow Chart is that each colour category has a multitude of produce to choose from! If your child is not a fan of apples they can eat strawberries or red peppers etc…to get the benefits of the Red group. The same goes for every colour. There will be at least one fruit and vegetable from each group that your child will eat!

Here are some tips to get more fruits and vegetables in your child’s diet:

Serve raw vegetables with a dip that they enjoy.

Cut up melon cubes and wash grapes and store re-sealable containers.

Add berries or dried fruit to cereal or as a yogurt topping.

Use frozen berries, ripe bananas, or canned peaches in smoothies.

Grate carrots and zucchini and add to salads, pasta sauce, pita or wrapped sandwiches.

Add frozen green peas or baby carrots to chicken noodle soup.

Add single-serve containers of fruit into lunch boxes such as unsweetened applesauce, canned peaches or pears, mandarin oranges or pineapple bits.

Use cookie cutters to make cute little designs on soft vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes.

Add bananas or berries to pancakes

Provide dried fruit instead of candy

Freeze fruits such as bananas, blueberries or grapes for a yummy frozen treat

Stock your fridge with washed and sliced veggies for an easy snack
