Welch’s Kitchen Table Report
posted by: Kia
A Welch’s Kitchen Table Report came out recently and we thought the survey had some positive news to share about family mealtimes. We also had the opportunity to interview Sarah-Jane Bedwell, a Registered Dietitian and media personality, regarding this report and we will be posting this interview tomorrow so be sure to check back to pick up some great tips on meal planning and getting kids to eat veggies from Sarah-Jane! A recent survey of over 4,000 parents was conducted to determine the

We have been able to meet some amazing rainbow eating families over the years. Connecting with families is one of the best parts of this business! If you’ve ever wondered if Eating Rainbows would actually work for your family, or if you think our Today I Ate A Rainbow kit only works for families that already eat lots of fruits and veggies…we have the perfect guest blog post for you! I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Beth (we’re both working on our picky eater issue
...Healthy Eating is Love
posted by: Kia
When we feed our kids (and ourselves) healthy food it is an expression of love because it shows that we give importance to good health. Being healthy and having healthy kids is something that we can easily take for granted…it can be one of those things that we don’t appreciate until it’s gone! My dad passed away 23 years ago on this day, he had cancer and a number of other health issues…healthy eating was never tops on his list. I think losing him when I was at such a you
...Making A Difference with Food Choices
posted by: Kia
Sometimes when problems seem so large and almost insurmountable, it can seem like the choices we make are insignificant, that it really doesn’t make a difference to help solve the problem. The current health condition of families and kids in particular, across North America is one of those big problems. There is a lot of finger pointing and blame shifting at who’s fault it is that childhood obesity rates are skyrocketing. I think it’s going to take a lot of collaborative

We have fun taking turns creating Hannah’s school lunch, sometimes she makes it with me and sometimes with her Daddy! We enjoy putting together different combinations and since we’re the Today I Ate A Rainbow family we’re always sure to include colorful fruits and veggies!!! We use mini cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes because it just makes everything taste better! I like to involve Hannah in the lunch making process because I think it’s important for her to feel co
...Pick A Peck of Purple Peppers!
posted by: Kia
Whenever we go grocery shopping Hannah is always drawn to anything that is her favorite color…PURPLE!!! So it didn’t surprise me when she squealed with delight at some gorgeous purple peppers and asked if she could get one. It is such a vibrant color and was the perfect topping to add to our homemade pizzas! We also spent the rest of our shopping trip doing our best to recite the Peter Piper Picked A Peck of Purple Peppers tongue twister! Colorful peppers are generally more expensive than

posted by: Kia
You are in for a treat with this guest blog post by Dana from Green Apple Baby! Just looking at her gorgeous pictures is making me hungry! Enjoy… Quinoa is a staple in our household. It is a super grain, containing all 9 essential amino acids, making it a “complete” protein. Quinoa is also high in fiber, iron and calcium! It is inexpensive and extremely easy to make. I couldn’t think of a better way to showcase it on Today I Ate A Rainbow, than by naming it after them!

I wrote this post as a participant in the Eat Better, Eat Together Balancing Act blog carnival hosted by MealsMatter and Dairy Council of California to share ways families everywhere can make time for family meals that include foods from all the food groups. A list of other registered dietitians and moms who are participating in the Balancing Act blog carnival will be listed at the bottom of this post or can be found at MealsMatter. Putting together healthy well balanced meals and eating as a

We have a wonderful guest blog post written by Dan Gilbert on behalf of Primrose Schools; a leader in educational childcare! Once you read this article take a moment to check out their fantastic website! Enjoy… Spending time with your child is precious, spending time with them AND teaching them a life long lesson, is priceless. As adults we may find ourselves spending a majority of our time in the kitchen preparing meals, snacks and desserts. Dr. Mary Zurn, Vice President of Primrose Pre
