As a Naturopathic Doctor and mother I love the Rainbow chart. Engaging kids in healthy eating habits and establishing a healthy relationship with food at a young age is one of the best things a parent/caregiver can do. The chart is fun and allows kids a chance to be involved with their health and be proud and take ownership of their postive actions. I recommend Today I Ate a Rainbow Chart to every family I know.

As a Nutritional Consultant that focuses on whole foods eating, the Today I Ate A Rainbow charts have become a valuable tool for all my clients with young families. The absolute best way to prevent diseases and symptoms is to eat quality fruits and vegetables daily, to provide the fibre, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and water required for optimal health. A rainbow is not just a fun tool for getting kids to eat their veggies; each colour of produce provides a different set of phytonutrients that protect a different system in the body. Eating a variety of colour provides all-over body protection. This chart is an excellent tool to keep your children not just not sick, but well!

I just love how the chart has relevance across the lifespan.  Parents can use it as a ‘checklist’ once their baby is introduced to solids, young children can strive daily to earn all their magnets, and adults can monitor their own fruit & veggie intake too.  It works for everyone!

As a mother of two and a nurse, I really like the idea of “today I ate a rainbow”. My children all always wanting to put their magnets up when they have ate the foods that will eventually create their rainbow! I think in times where meals can get rushed and not so healthy, this chart allows moms and dads that may think they are too busy to put some fun back into trying to make healthier choices for our children.

Thank you so much for introducing me to your great chart Kia!!!  The kids love using it and have even started to help me plan their school snacks and lunches to make sure they get all of their rainbow colors for the day!  I cant believe how much they want to be involved!  I have always tried to educate them about the importance of fruits and veggies but you know how it is – in one ear and out the other.  The charts have given the kids an independant learning tool and now they ask me questions about produce!!  We recently went away for three days and my son wanted to bring the chart with us so he could keep track of his fruits and veggies – ha ha ha – I love it!  Great job Kia and good luck with this fantastic chart!!

Our 3 year old Willa has started to be a bit more discerning with what she will eat. She has developed a real affection for cookies lately, and having the chart has been a great concrete focal point for conversations around healthy eating. Willa has responded much more favourably than I expected, and her enthusiasm and interest is a great surprise. Just as many of the testimonials say, Willa seems to feel a great deal of pride at eating a rainbow everyday. She just ran into her dad’s office right after lunch and proudly told him that she had already eaten a rainbow today.

We just listened to the rainbow song this morning, four times. We have made good use of some of the helpful tips, and we love the website. Thanks for this wonderful system that has such a positive affect on the health of our kids (and us)!

As a mother of two extremely picky eaters, I need all the nutritional assistance I can get.  The “Today I Ate A Rainbow” system has been great for our family because it’s made all of us much more aware of our daily fruit & veggie choices.  My kids really enjoy the friendly competition involved with seeing who can get the most colours up first, and they have a genuine sense of pride and accomplishment on the days they successfully consume the whole spectrum.  All in all, a great tool — highly recommended!

The chart has been a great success. Liam is keen to eat a rainbow each day and often brings the subject up himself. It is not unusual for him to say in the morning, “Mommy, I want to eat a rainbow today!” In the past, I could not always get him to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. While it is still a challenge at times, the rainbow makes that challenge a lot easier. Often, after supper, if he is missing a colour, he’s willing to have a little something, even if only a small bit, to make up his final colour or two. I also find that the chart has made him more aware of the need for a variety of colours.

He also loves the song. He’s asked to see Hannah singing it over and over again and has even sung it himself a few times.

For my part, the chart has made me more conscious of the need to make sure he eats a variety of fruits and vegetables and the magnets help me remember what he’s already had that day.

All in all, I think it’s working out wonderfully!

While our son already enjoys a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, he loves the Today I Ate a Rainbow chart, and feels proud filling in the chart and giving himself a rainbow at the end of the day. It’s a little pat on the back for something he’s already doing well, and to me, that seems like great positive reinforcement toward life-long healthy eating habits.

The rainbow chart has been helpful in getting my kids to eat a variety of colorful ‘grow foods’ everyday. It is really well organized and simple to use. My kids have taken to it well. They feel empowered to make healthy choices on their own. They like looking to see what color(s) they still need to eat and then looking to see what will work to complete their rainbow. I look to the chart when making snacks and packing lunches and it helps me decide what to make. I.e. if they still need green, I cut up cucumbers and peppers to go with their sandwich; if they need orange, I cut up carrots. The color-coded shopping list helps remind me to pick up a variety of colors when I am shopping.

We have used the chart for a couple months and my kids still have fun with it. They eat more fruit and veggies now than they used to and they are excited to be learning about healthy eating. We visit the website when we have a “rainbow day” and listen to / sing along to the Rainbow Song. The website also has great tips and ideas for parents!

Although takes a little preparation and thought to eat a rainbow everyday, my kids are successful on most days and it is like a game to them – fun! I really think the rainbow chart is a winning idea – I definitely recommend it for families with young children.
