The Kids Cook Monday!

posted by: Kia

This week we decided to share our school lunch making!  We love creating Hannah’s lunch together, somtimes she makes it with me and sometimes with her Daddy!  We have fun putting together different combinations and since we’re the Today I Ate A Rainbow family we’re always sure to include colourful fruits and veggies!!!

We use mini cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes because it just makes everything taste better :)

I like to involve Hannah in the lunch making process because I think it’s important for her to feel comfortable in kitchen and learn skills that will last a lifetime!  We usually put together her lunches the night before school because our mornings are busy enough!  She washes the fruit and veggies, chops things that are easy for her like cucumbers, fills her water bottle and helps out any way that she can.  Our goal is for her to make her own lunches so that more we teach her now the sooner that will happen!

The only thing I always do myself, is write her a note :)   Sometimes it’s a knock knock joke, sometimes it’s just a funny doodle, and others are messages of encouragement and love! It’s a way for me to be a part of her day at school and remind her that she’s special!

Making lunches together is a great time to connect with your child!

Where can I purchase that wonderful lunch box in the picture?

  4. Kia says:

    Hi Jamie,

The lunch box is from Go Green http://www.gogreenlunchbox.com/ It’s great…only thing I would recommend is to not put in in the dishwasher! We did that and it warped the lid making it hard to open and close. I will say they were great about it and sent us a replacement lid! Other than that this lunch box is fantastic!

“I was a little skeptical at first… not that I didn’t think the idea was cute or that it could be used for a learning tool… but I didn’t think it would encourage my kids to eat healthier! ...Read More - Sarah Barnes-
