The Kids Cook Monday!

posted by: Kia

My daughter Hannah and I have lots of fun in the kitchen so it was a perfect fit for us to join “The Kids Cook Monday” program!  I think that encouraging kids to get involved in the planning and preparation of the food that they eat is a great way to instill healthy eating habits.  Kids are far more likely to eat food that they have helped to choose and prepare!

For our first “The Kids Cook Monday!” we made yummy Rainbow Fruit Sticks!  We hope you will have fun making these with your kids!  All you need is a collection of colourful fruit and some skewersThis time we used: Strawberries, Oranges, Pineapple, Grapes, and Blueberries to give the skewers a nice rainbow effect!

Step 1: Wash hands

Step 2: Wash fruit

Step 3: Get Skewers and fruit ready

Step 4: Cut up the fruit into bite size chunks    *teaching kids how to safely use small knives makes it very handy for them to help out…you can even start with just a butter knife!

Step 5: Put all the cut up fruit in a dish or on a plate

Step 6: Carefully arrange the fruit chunks on the skewer  *We like to make ours in a Rainbow pattern of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue!

Step 7:  Put all the skewers on a plate and serve!

Rainbow Fruit Sticks are easy for kids to make and they are a fun way to get kids to eat a variety of fruit!
