We are very excited to debut a program created with our partners Kim Corrigan-Oliver and Meghan Ford called Wee Eat Rainbows! The Wee Eat Rainbows Education Program is a preschool program for children, ages 2 to 4 years of age with a focus on eating the colours of the rainbow every day.
The Wee Eat Rainbows Program is designed to educate, inspire, and excite young children about fruits and vegetables of all different colors. This fun educational process will familiarize children with these foods so that they’re comfortable eating them on a regular basis. Nutrition education is necessary starting as young as possible to set a solid foundation for healthy children that will become healthy teenagers, then adults.
Wee Eat Rainbows is a 6 week program that focuses on a different color of the rainbow each week. Every day of the week the children will participate in one activity that centres in on the color of that particular week. The activities vary from coloring to match-ups games, and reading to crafts. The children will also have the opportunity to touch, feel, smell, and even taste various fruits and vegetables they’re learning about. Week six will be a review week, where all of the colors are incorporated into the activities; this is when the children will solidify their knowledge.
By the end of the 6 weeks, the kids will have learned about a variety of red, orange, yellow, green, and purple fruits and vegetables. Our hope is that they will bring this knowledge home and inspire the whole family to increase their intake of healthy and colourful fruits and vegetables.
Including the Wee Eat Rainbows Education Program in your day care center or preschool will provide ideas for activities around healthy foods, motivate teachers and children alike to choose healthier foods, and inspire change in the center and at home!

GUESS WHAT??? Though considered a vegetable in cooking, botanically speaking, squash is a fruit and not a vegetable.
